Weekend News

Well, I have been a bit slack this weekend with giving you all my weekend news. I think I am just so preoccupied with our holiday at the end of this week, that I can't seem to think about anything else! Back to the weekend though... On Friday nght, Mike went out after work for Keller Kellerways farewell drinks and if Mike ever blogs on here, he can tell you more about it. He got home at about 7:30 and we ordered in from our fav - Olive Garden again, for dinner. We were both feeling so tired and lazy that we just had dinner and got into bed at about 8:30! Watched some telly and had a really early night! On Saturday morning, we went to the Asda in Clapham, as their alcohol is really cheap there. Mike got a nice bottle of 10yr old Bushmills whiskey for himself and his Irsih cousin! Then back home, as Mike and I went to the dentist for a checkup and a good clean. Back home again and a bit of tidying up and I made a tart for dessert for the braai. Cuan and Nats came over for an afternoon braai at 4pm and we had such a perfect meal. Mike was a prefect chef and we had awesome rib eye steak, BBQ chicken wings, butternut, potatoes and corn on the cob all on the braai. Had a lovely time all together and it was so nice to see them again. Once they went home, we got into bed and had anotherrelastively early night. On Sunday, we took a walk in the beautiful sunshine down to Southside centre to buy another small suitcase for our holiday. Then Mike took me to Spur for lunch, which was so yummy and then we went to the movies to watch Hancock. The movie was quite good, though not quite what I was expecting it to be. After the movie, we went home and just relaxed for the rest of the day. Quite a busy but erelaxing weekend all the same. Felt nice and refreshed and ready for Monday.

Thoughts on Marriage...

Well, instead of being all newsy all the time, I thought this would also be a good place to write a few thoughts down and let everyone have a chance to comment etc. By the way, can you tell that I don't want to work today - oh well, hehehe. I wanted to write about the 'institution' of marriage as I find it strange that people are just not keen to be married anymore. I wonder why? I think it has something to do with the instant gratification society that we live in today, where you can get what you want as soon as you want it. I think people cannot fathom how they would stay happily married to one person for their whole lives. It sounds like way too much of a commitment! Well, marriage is a huge commitment but it must be one of the most rewarding and amazing commitments that you can ever make. I could not be any happier. Life just seems to be so much more rewarding when you have this amazing person sharing your life with you. And you know that they have readily made the same commitment to you for life. I love being married and I love my husband! I really struggle to understand why people would not want this kind of relationship in their lives. Any thoughts?

Schengen Visa Appointment

I had my visa appointment at the Spanish Embassy on Monday morning and it was quite a bit of a mission, only because I was looking at completely the wrong website for information. I got all of the various documents together that I thought I needed but when I actually got there, it was completely different. Because Mike is an EU citizen, all I needed to take was my passport, Mikes passport, our marriage certificate and a recent bill showing our address and I didn't have to pay for it. Now that I have been for my visa appointment, our holiday is feeling real. Not long now and we will be sunning ourselves on the beach in Barcelona! I am so looking forward to this holiday and I just know we are going to have the most amazing time together! Mike was still not feeling well on Monday night and so we came home and had an earliesh night. We order takeout from the Olive Garden in Southfields and the food was amazing. It is one of our favourite restaurants and it did not let us down. Mike did not enjoy his as much as I did mine but I think he was just a bit miserable being ill. I phoned home and had a nice chat to everyone and we got into bed by 10pm. Nice to have an early one every now and then.

Recovering

Well, since last week, I have had the flu in quite a bad way, I am feeling mostly recovered now, just still a bit drained and tired. Unfortunately, I passed the flu onto Mike and so he has been feeling awful since Sunday. He is so stubborn though and refuses to stay home from work, he is never going to get better if he does not rest. We had a lovely weekend all the same - on Friday night Mike and I met at Wimbledon where we boughht a new camera for ourselves, for Barcelona , a Canon Ixus 90. It is very cool and I am so happy with it! We went to the Slug and Lettuce and had a few drinks together. After that we went home and played SingStar together. It was great fun and we had such a laugh doing it. We got so involved that we only ended up going to bed after 1am! On Saturday morning, we had an early morning as we met Sput and Myles at the Springbok Pub in Covent Garden at 10:00am. The rugby was a bit disappointing - we lost :( We stayed at the Springbok bar for a bit and then moved onto Belushis. I think that place is Mike and mines favourite place, as it is quite a rock place. We left there at about 5 because sput had to get home to Aletha and I was not feeling well and desperately wanted to have a lie down. Had my lie down and then Dwayne came to pick us up and we went off to his house for a braai. Had a lovely time but by this time, I think Mike and I had overdone it quite a bit and we were both not feeling well. We only left there at 2:30am and went home and went straight to bed. Inevitably, on Sunday when we woke up, we were both feeling awful and we stayed in bed all day. Well, Mike did anyway, I had to rush off to work to pick up documents and make copies for my Spanish Visa appointment on Monday. All in all, quite a pretty busy weekend for two sickies!

The Flu is in the Building!

Well, I am sick! I left work early yesterday after all and went home to get into bed! My lovely husband looked after me when he got home and cooked dinner (spaghetti) for me and everything. He really is the best! I am not feeling quite so light headed and woozy today but am still feeling pretty awful. I am starting to get irritated with this all already. I hate being sick. Still good on the no smoking side though - 2nd day! I am thinking about it a bit after meals but it soon passes and so I am managing. I haven't given this website to Mike yet, guess I should so that he can get on here as well. Think he would use it. Love to you all xxx

The Flu is A-Knocking!

Well, just what I need! I have woken up this morning and I am feeling pretty awful! I have had a sore and scratchy throat for the last few days but I was hopoing that it would not amount to anything. Alas, it has! I am at work today but am beginning to doubt that I am going to be here all afternoon. On the plus side, it has made giving up smoking a lot easier. I had my last cigarette today and so that is that! At least I am feeling so bad that I don't even feel like smoking. Had a quiet night last night, had our second round of bunny chows and loved them! Then went to drop off my books at the library and Mike and I stopped off at the Puzzle for a drinkie on the way home. Stayed only for one and then went home and had a nice early night!

Weekend Update

We had quite a relaxed weekend - which was awesome for a change. On Friday night, I went out on a girls dinner to Tu Chicas in Wimbledon and it was great fun - good company and good food! After dinner, Mike and Dwayne met Alex and I and walked us back to Dwaynes and we stayed there for a bit, chatting. On Saturday was the rugby, which SA won! Yay! After the rugby Mike and I went accross to Cafe 377 and had an English Breakfast each and then went back home and spent the afternoon on the couch, napping and watching the cricket. In the evening, Sparky came over to ours and we made out way to the Leather Bottle in Earlsfield for Ruth Howards 30th birthday. Had a lovely time out, but we were all feeling a bit tired and cold, and so we had quite an early night. Was in bed for 10:30pm. Had a nice sleep in on Sunday, only got up after 10am. I put some lamb curry in the slow cooker, did a few loads of washing and then we took a walk down to the Southside Centre as it was such a nice day. Both needed a few bits and bobs and then we decided we were a bit hungry! So we got very piggy and went to the Spur(when we knew we had bunny chows to eat in a few hours!) Mike had Eat-As Much-As-You-Like ribs and I had a bacon, Cheese and Guacomole Burger! Food was awesome and we were both so fill! Walked back home again as we needed to digest all the food we had eaten. Once we were home, more napping and watching cricket. I called my folks and then we watched the Sunday night movie. Only ended up eating bunny chow way after 8pm and so little of it that we will be eating it tonight as well! Looking forward to it already! Was a nice well rested weekend overall. On the baby prep front, I bought some plain folic acid tablets and have started those now, whilst I am still on the pill. I am on my last box of cigarettes and when those are finished - no more smoking! I have also started changing my diet to include a lot more fruit and veg, less caffeine and no more junk food, like crisps etc. I think it is a good idea as hopefully I will lose a bit of weight and also I will have good habits by the time I am pregnant so that I don't feel like it is such a lifestyle change.

The News is Not Yet Out...

Hi All Not that I have given this website out yet or anything but hey! I have had a brilliant idea for this blog... Maybe I should start at the beginning. Mike and I have decided that we are ready to start trying for kids!!! Exciting news I know! So I thought that for the benefit of everyone.. it would be cool to keep a journal of our grand journey to parenthood! That way I think everyone can feel involved and it is an easy way for me to keep everyone updated! So the grand plan is, that after our holiday in Barcelona next month, we will come home and start making a concerted effort in the baby department! A little last holiday if you will for just the two of us. A lot of changes are abound for us, mostly me though. No more smoking or drinking, There is a bunch of stuff that I can't eat - like blue cheese (BOO!) and pates etc. I went into Wimbledon on the way home on Wednesday and bought a pregnancy book, so will have to do a lot of reading up on all this! I have got my prenatal vitamins and I even bought some Johnson & Johnson Baby Bath. I thought that if we bought a lot of small stuff from now, then when the time came, we would not have too much more to get. I am so excited about this - I couldn't hold my tongue and so I have told my family (Hi!) but Mike has decided he would rather shock his folks and only tell them at the 12 week mark. I wonder how long it is going to take us to fall pregnant???? Well, will keep you posted!

Back in Action and Weekend News.

Well, I have stumbled across this blog again and realised that I have been a member of this site since 2006 and I have not used it once yet. How very bad! So, what I am going to write here, I have no idea but I am going to try and write as often as possible. Well, the weekend is over again, and it was very busy as usual but we had a good one. On Friday night, I met Mike after work at the Vic and then all his work mates were rounded up and we went off to Freud's Cocktail Bar in Convent Garden. We had a lovely time, the bar is underground and all concrete, small and extremely busy. There was barely any standing space but besides that, I haven't one other complaint. The cocktail menu was almost limitless and the ones I had were very tasty! They also exhibit art there and change the art once a month, which I thought was quite cool. We left the bar pretty early and headed home for a nice curry and an early night. On Saturday, we had a bright and early morning as we made the trip up to Paul and Dimples for Kirans 1st Birthday! The weather was lovely and warm and we had a lovely afternoon with them. Plenty of delicious food, including the most amazing potato samoosas! Yummy! There were also plenty of little kids around that had successfully made me feel a bit broody by the end of the afternoon! They were just too cute! Then Mike and I made a spontaneous plan to have a braai at our house as Mark is now in London and we wanted to all get together. So, back off to London we rushed - well we tried to at least, we caught the long train and ended up taking over 2 hours to get home! - and had a braai at our house. Mark, Bleesh, Morne, Mike and I were all there and we had a veg packed braai and some amazing steak! Dwayne joined us later and we ended up getting to bed way after 3am after the boys dipped into the 12 year old Jameson! After a good sleep in after a late night the night before - we got up on Sunday and made plans for our outside area - as we had broken our last chair and the braai the night before! So Mike and Dwayne went off to Argos and got us a lovely black and silver patio set, with a glass table, 4 chairs, umbrella and 2 loungers. We also got a bigger braai - a nice half barrel - like good South Africans! We have put the patio set up but we still need to do the braai - Mike was feeling a bit weak after all the carrying that he had done on a hangover! By this time, it was evening already and I made us a nice Chicken and Butternut soup - which Mike loves and is the only soup that he will ever eat! Then Mike was on the GTA4 (he bought the game yesterday as well) and I spent the rest of the night watching some CSI Sunday! And so the start of another week!
